ABOUT Uniondale

Uniondale is a charming little town often called the Little Karoo's best-kept secret.  It is world renowned for the mysterious hitch hiker ghost.  People that hear about Uniondale would often ask locals "Have you seen her?"  But the answers is always No.  The ghost of Uniondale is no longer appearing but this mysterious story has become a country fable.

Uniondale  is  somewhat hidden from the feverish tourist destinations of Oudtshoorn, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay and George.    With the area  adjacent to these popular tourist destinations it is the ideal destination from where daytrips can be undertaken.  George is 110 km away  on the N9 over the Outeniqua mountains.  Oudshoorn is also 118 km away via the road to De Rust.  The coastal towns of Knysna and Plettenberg Bay is 80km from Uniondale via the historic Prince Alfred pass build by Thomas Bain.

Uniondale is also located conveniently on Cape Route 62, a tourist route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.  The Baviaanskloof is also a tourist destination approximately 80km away from Uniondale.

Uniondale is the start of the annual Karoo2Coast - one of the oldest and most popular races on the mountain biking calendar, attracting this year more than 4000 cyclists.  The district with its mountainous terrain offer plenty of dirt roads for mountain biking cyclist and off roaders.

ABOUT Haarlem

Haarlem is a small agricultural village in the Langkloof.  It is rumoured that it was named 'Haarlem' by homesick Dutch settlers. German missionaries first made contact with the small village in the 1850s - and established a mission station (named Anhalt-Schmidt) in 1860.

Haarlem had a colourful history - which is visible in its buildings and through the oral history of the families who have lived in the village for generations.

Haarlem is also located conveniently on Cape Route 62, a tourist route between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Haarlem has  a rich architecture and historical building collection  with several national monuments.
